Voice Phishing Alert: Be Extremely Cautious of Calls Impersonating Immigration Officials
We are issuing the following notice due to recent reports of suspected voice phishing attempts impersonating immigration officials from the Yangju Immigration Office.
Recent Case Example
Recently, a voice phishing scam has become prevalent where individuals impersonate government officials using forged official documents and business cards. They gain trust by claiming they will award construction projects or purchase goods from specific companies, and then request the victim to purchase goods on their behalf.
In a recent case, an individual identifying himself as ‘Kim Hyun-jun, Officer’ from the Yangju Immigration Office, called construction and staffing companies using the mobile phone number 8342-6754, requesting them to purchase goods on their behalf for construction projects. However, no employee named ‘Kim Hyun-jun’ exists at the Yangju Immigration Office.
Important Information
The Ministry of Justice and Immigration Offices never request personal information or ask you to purchase goods over the phone. Similar cases impersonating officials from other Immigration Offices may occur in the future. If you receive such a call, please take special care to prevent any damages. If you receive a suspicious call, please verify the facts directly with the relevant Immigration Office.
